Costa Brava Holidays

If it weren’t for the great choice of resorts, perfect holiday weather and cheap deals, there’d be no reason to go to Costa Brava; unless you like beautiful beaches, delicious food and an exciting nightlife! Jetline arranges loads of package holidays to Costa Brava, so you’ll definitely find just what you want on our website, whether you’re heading to Spain alone, with the family or on a romantic break.

Spain's wild coast

Costa Brava runs from Blanes all the way to the French border and, even though it means ‘wild coast’, there are peaceful tracts among its varied resorts and beaches. Blanes, although known for its proximity to a large theme park – Marineland - is a relatively undeveloped resort and has a charming Catalan character that doesn’t shine through in the more commercial areas. The larger resorts, such as Lloret de Mar and Calella, are perfect if you like an electric atmosphere to build up after nightfall.

Lloret de Mar's nightlife is the liveliest along the Costa Brava, attracting stag and hen parties to its big nightclubs, such as hotspot, Moby’s. It’s known, also, for its many and varied restaurants and its friendly pubs, including the English-themed Queen Vic. With its wild coastline, Costa Brava has quite a few secluded beaches that are best for anyone taking their small children on a family holiday, who would rather avoid the big crowds. Such secluded areas include Malgrat de Mar and Belladona Cove at Platja-D-Aro.

The enormous Massif Montenegre National Park spans a large area along the coast, running behind the resorts and beaches. The beautiful resort of Santa Susana sits in front of three small peaks of the mountain range, making it particularly popular with sporty visitors who can enjoy hiking, climbing, cycling or even a Segway ride through the hills. Santa Susana has also been given the Family Tourism Award, recognising it as a great destination for a family holiday. With child-friendly activity areas in the national park, soft, clean beaches featuring children’s clubs and a fantastic adventure playground all on tap, Santa Susana is a great place to take a family holiday that’s all inclusive as there’s no need to stray far from the resort.

Spain loves to host festivals and the biggest one in Costa Brava takes place in the sumptuous grounds of the Peralada Castle in Girona. The Festival Castell de Peralada showcases a wide range of musical styles, theatre and dance and attracts world-class acts, like Harry Connick Jr. and Dionne Warwick. In yet another treat for music fans, the Cap Roig Festival, each July, features artists of the status of Elton John and Keane, as well as popular Costa Bravan musicians.

Best for beaches

There are many contenders for the title of ‘Costa Brava’s Best Beach’, but it depends on what you want from your holiday. The weather is great for a planned getaway at the height of the season or a last-minute holiday outside of peak time, so that won’t narrow it down. The water’s clear and warm all along the coast and there are hotels to suit all needs and budgets, close to every beach! With such stiff competition, it’s hard to say what could nudge a beach into the lead.

Castell may have a valid claim, being the last undeveloped beach on the coast. Nestled between quiet coves and flanked by a fragrant pine forest, it’s perfect if you’re looking for peace and quiet. Go there for a honeymoon, romantic getaway or to capture some great photographs without a crowd of sunbathers to ruin your landscape shot. If ‘peace and quiet’ is your idea of a nightmare, however, you should grab your towel and head for the long stretch of golden sands that makes up Platja de Pals, where activity is the order of the day. There are surfers of all kinds here: wind, kite and the usual board surfers, but as the beach is long and not bound by coves, as is so often the case in Costa Brava, there is plenty of scope for beach activities like volleyball.

Although you might not want to take your family to Platja de Pals, as it has a nudist section, any parent wants plenty of space for their little ones to enjoy, and large beaches are in short supply here. Sa Riera, however, fits the bill nicely with soft sand, rock pools to explore and plenty of scope for swimming or taking pedalo rides. Look for it when you check out Jetline’s great offers.

Perfect holiday climate

With extended summers and short, mild winters, Costa Brava is just as good whether you’re hoping for a package holiday in August or a last minute holiday in December. With its well-placed mountains, Costa Brava is a great place for a skiing holiday or you can simply come down to sea level and make the most of the temperature being around thirteen degrees, to enjoy the almost-deserted beaches. Average summer temperatures are in the high twenties, but can reach the mid to late thirties, so sunblock is the order of the day.
